Porsche Middle East & Africa has introduced the latest edition of its 911 Turbo Cabriolet.
The car has been adored as much for its looks and performance as it has for its innovation over the 20 years since it was first released, said a spokesman.
Commenting on the impact of the new soft-top 911, Deesch Papke, managing director of Porsche Middle East & Africa, said: “The 911 Turbo Cabriolet is very significant for the Middle East market.”
“This is a performance car that combines power, excitement and flexibility, and it continues with the notable advances the model has made for the last two decades. The 911 Turbo Cabriolet has always been a leader and the 2008 generation is the most impressive by far,” he said.
The 911 Turbo Cabriolet is a classic 2+2-seater that offers the exhilarating dynamics of a high-performance sports car while still providing the open-top pleasure of a convertible. This year, the new model boasts greater fuel economy over its competitors, thanks to its low weight, outstanding aerodynamics and advanced engine technology, he said.
Like its 911 Turbo Coupé stablemate, a 3.6-litre six-cylinder biturbo ‘Boxer’ engine – which is noted for its balance of power – provides the powerplant. This unit marks the highest level of technology in the world of turbocharged engines, and generates 480 bhp, and maximum torque of 620 Newton-meter between 1,950 and 5,000 rpm.
With manual transmission, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 4 seconds; with the Tiptronic S automatic option, the time can be cut to an incredible 3.8 seconds. While both versions can reach speeds of up to 310 km/h, fuel consumption is just 12.9 litres per 100 km, which takes the 911 Turbo Convertible to the fore in its class.
“Porsche’s 911 series has always been known for its agility and performance around corners, and the Turbo Cabriolet places great emphasis on this philosophy. With power distributed to all four wheels, the engine’s management computer monitors driving characteristics and compensates accordingly to always keep a stable and true course to match the car’s performance,” he said.
The new 911 Turbo Cabriolet is the safest yet, with a reinforced chassis and extended rollover protection behind the rear seats. Inside, six airbags come as standard equipment, and Porsche is the first manufacturer worldwide to offer side-sill airbags activated together with thorax airbags in the front-seat back-rests, said Papke. The light, three-layer soft top, which can be opened or closed in roughly 20 seconds at the touch of a button, is the most distinctive feature of the 911 Turbo Cabriolet.
“The new Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet is the safest, most intelligent and best appointed performance convertible on the market,” said Hans Georg Brune, general manager, Porsche Centre Dubai – Al Nabooda Automobiles. “We are looking forward to customers finding out what it is like to drive 20 years of history and innovation, and embracing the Porsche ethos.”
The basic retail price for the new 911 Turbo Cabriolet in Dubai is Dh488,000 (excluding value added tax and country-specific requirements) and will be available at showrooms starting today (September 9). – TradeArabia News Service
