Riyadh Yellow Limestone quarry

As destination-scale developments and heritage-driven megaprojects accelerate across Saudi Arabia, the local sourcing of authentic geological materials has become a critical focal point for regional asset developers. At the heart of this material localisation strategy is the largest certified Riyadh Yellow Limestone quarry in the kingdom. Situated just outside Riyadh, the newly opened and licensed quarry represents a monumental advancement in supply-chain resilience, structural sustainability, and cost efficiency for the Middle Eastern construction sector.

The quarry will exclusively supply Riyadh Yellow Limestone, a natural stone deeply woven into the historical and architectural fabric of the kingdom. Revered for its distinct aesthetic character, natural authenticity, and long-term durability under harsh regional climates, this stone serves as a foundational element for Saudi Arabia’s modern cultural and commercial landmarks.

Material extracted from Riyadh Yellow Limestone quarry is optimised for an extensive array of structural and decorative applications, including:

• Infrastructure elements: Foundational plinths, heavy-duty curbs, and drainage gutters.

• Architectural envelopes: High-performance facade cladding and robust external paving across assets such as public spaces, heritage centres, luxury hotels, libraries, museums, and residential complexes.

Officially licensed by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the operational scale of this landmark quarry directly addresses the challenges of stone procurement for complex mega-builds.

The successful certification and development of the quarry were carried out by Versatile International, the Middle East’s first fully integrated stone project management consultancy. Working alongside locally established partners and a key anchor client, the consultancy applied a rigorous, multidisciplinary framework to establish a new benchmark for quarry operations in the region.

To ensure absolute compliance with stringent ministry requirements and international quality benchmarks, Versatile International provided specialist technical expertise throughout the quarry licensing process. The multidisciplinary team applied geological and materials science insight, production engineering, quality assurance and regulatory advisory throughout the governance process.

The opening of the quarry represents a significant advancement in strengthening local supply chains and supporting the delivery of natural stone for destination-scale developments.

Marco Fahd, Group Chairman and CEO of Versatile International, remarked: “We are proud to have advised on the quarry’s certification and governance, establishing a clear benchmark for excellence in domain. Versatile’s specialist technical expertise, spanning stone resource assessment, licensing, extraction planning, processing design and logistics integration, has ensured robust controls, predictable material performance and operational efficiency for the future of the quarry.

“We commend our partners for pioneering this model, which ultimately raises standards, strengthens supply-chain resilience and promotes safer, more sustainable quarry operations across the kingdom.”
